That YouTube Book Debate

-- It's time to get my teeth stuck into this
much talked about debate --

Hi lovely people, Bloglovin' have sorted my followers out so if you've followed Annaboho, you're now following my new name Franalibi. Anyway, seeing this is a joyful time, I thought I would write the post about a topic I have a passionate view about. YouTube books. I just want to disclaim that I respect all opinions that everyone's put in and I hope you respect mine, but it would be fun if you guys debated in the comments.

Now, I just want to put it out there. I have three books from YouTubers (pictured above) and I'm not going to lie that I love reading them. I was really excited when Zoe released her book, because she was the first one to do it and I knew, as a loyal viewer, that she actually loved to write when she was younger. And she didn't hire a ghost writer, she wrote it herself and just had help! But after a while, everyone was hopping on the bandwagon and releasing books. And I feel, after the success of Zoe, maybe everyone else was thinking they could do it, and even publishers could have been thinking they could get money out of viewers who look up to YouTubers. After a while when there was a load of 'BIG ANNOUNCEMENT' and 'I HAVE A SECRET' videos popping in my subscription box, the excitement for the people I loved to watch died away.

'Oh, ok' I would think when they brought to the screen their shiny book cover. There are some YouTubers that I have exceptions for, and those are the ones I save my money up for. Tanya Burr's was a autobiography with fashion, beauty and skincare tips with recipes and life mixed in. I love it and I don't regret buying it. Connor Franta's was a beautiful memoir that I loved reading and the photos in their are goals. And I'm going to buy Louise's and Zoe's second one. Now, why if I feel bitter disappointment about these announcements am I buying books?

Well, this is what I think. Think of it as a good thing. Right now, some of us are complaining and some of us are really happy. But in how many years time, say 30, these successful people may have moved on from what they're doing. Married, happy with children. And there's no videos or blog posts to look forward to. And the internet dies. (I seriously hope this doesn't happen) These books that we have now from YouTubers could be the only things we have. Even when we're 80 we can look at their fraying spines and think of the good old days. (Sorry to be depressing)

And that's why I think the idea of YouTube books are good, sure it's becoming saturated, but for the people you love watching and care about, you can have a physical thing that they've written in your home forever. Bet nobody thought of it like that.

What do you guys think about it?

  1. I think Youtube books are actually a good thing (I mean no one is forcing you to buy them). I loved Tanya's but never read Zoella's because it's a bit young for me personally.

  3. I do love them, I thoroughly enjoyed Zoe's book, but it comes to a point where I find it overwhelming to have so many YouTubers publish books. Some growing authors are finding it so hard to find a publisher who will publish their book. They spend a couple of years in uni or college just working at the dream of seeing their written work in stores and yet here, YouTubers who may have no experience in writing are getting their chance to. Now, there are the exceptions such as Tyler Oakley who declined his first book offer due to the fact that he thought himself as an average writer and has been spending the last year working and developing his writing skills in order to produce work he is proud of, and I love that and support it forever. But there are others who simply get the chance to write a book that maybe they don't have a complete passion for. I am happy for all those who have a book coming out and wish them much success though xxx

    1. that's so lovely of Tyler, and I do see your point, you do have to have a passion for it and not be in it just for the money they could get x
