Being A Small Blogger

-- I'm giving some truths about how I manage
and write on a small blog --

I've had my blog for a year and a bit now, and my blog is growing slowly but steadily. Of course I don't have 1000's of followers and I haven't grown as quickly as other bloggers who have been around for the same time as me. I think this is mainly due to not jumping into ads, sponsorship's and buying a theme. But that doesn't mean my blog isn't worthy of being on the internet, and I'm happy to be in my bubble of a small blog.

I think I've done a post on this before already, but it was more of how I manage a blog while in education. Now that I've finished, I'm pretty sure I have more time on my hands while I search for an apprenticeship or a job to tie me over until I get an apprenticeship. I'm going to list some truths about what it's like for me, some of you might relate and some of you might have bigger blogs and remember those days...

1. You can change your theme and header as much as you want and people won't get confused.
I can't remember how many times I changed my layout when I had my Simple template and changing from one theme to another and back. It seems my blog gets more views with every change so that can be a good thing right? You don't have to worry about those 5000 people complaining your header always changes - because you're not a brand and it's a hobby. Also, it makes you feel better because it's like a fresh start on a month and so on.

2. You can blog about whatever you want.
You don't have to worry about those sponsorship posts and as long as it's relevant to your interests and blog, any post can be where you pour your heart into it. I've especially warmed to book reviews, style icon posts and monthly envies.

3. You can actually reply to comments.
I get on average 3 to 4 comments on a post if I'm lucky. But it feels more special that these people have commented on your post. I don't know how to describe it but there's no thirst to be big to have loads of comments, but rather those few comments I get feel more personal and people actually care to comment.

4. You only get so many views on a post.
I'm telling the complete truth here, the most I get on a post has to be around 90 views. It might seem very small to some but it's a huge achievement for me. At least when I get 17 views I know it wasn't a good post, and then I can work on something better.

5. You can literally post whenever you want.
It could be once a week, every two days, but I love posting every day. That's how much I love my blog, and sometimes I miss a day and people don't mind. But knowing as a small blogger you have the control to post and there's no pressure to write a post you don't put your heart into so people aren't disappointed, it makes it even more fun.

What truths are relevant to you?

  1. Honestly, this is so relatable. As I've been keeping up with your blog for a few months now, I enjoy reading yours the most just because the content feels a lot more personal than most. As a small blogger doing it as a hobby as well, I felt myself nodding my head to every point you made. Reassured me that I don't need thousands of views on every post and that I should cherish the 100 that I rarely do get xxxxx
