Goodbye 2020: The Year Of "WTF?!"

Looking on the bright side of 2020

I'm still gonna do a little year summary of my favourite parts of the year, despite the fact that I said 2020 had a nice ring to it and it was going to be the year I progressed. And then it became a sh*t show...

The above pictures were taken when I started to change my mindset a little towards the end of this year and I was settling into the new norm. Because in all honesty, we can't and shouldn't go back to how we were living life before... (A friendly reminder we are in a climate emergency too)

That isn't to say my anxiety hasn't been present. My anxiety has been pretty high this year and I've had multiple moments of crying, clenching my teeth and feeling sick in my stomach. And in turn, that's caused me to neglect my blog and youtube a little bit.

BUUUT, it's important to remember all the good little moments we've had this year - because it hasn't all been doom and gloom.

So, here's 10 little things that made my 2020 (even if I didn't set out to do what I intended...)

001: starting my illustration journey!
On January 5th 2020, my dad dug out an old 2005 model Wacom tablet and gave it to me. And in that moment, I decided to delve into the world of illustration! Nearly a year on, I can proudly call illustration my favourite hobby and I am amazed at how far I've pretty much progressed. If you want to support me, follow my account here.

002: diving into my animal crossing: new horizons adventure!
As we went into the first lockdown at the end of March, the next Animal Crossing game came out and I bit the bullet and treated myself to a Nintendo Switch console and game bundle! I'm pretty addicted to this game and even though the concept is simple, it's so fun and relaxing to play...

003: reading over 70 books!
Of course this year meant I had much more free time on my hands, so I hit and surpassed my goal of 55 books and am nearly hitting 80 books already. And let me tell you, this is the most amount of books I've EVER read in a year!

004: eating good food with friends!
When we've been allowed to meet up with friends, I've had some lovely moments having picnics, good catch ups and also eating my favourite food: pizza and cake. Nom nom nom.

005: making my plant family bigger!
Because garden centres were one of the only places to be allowed to be open, I went there A LOT and always left with a plant. I've gained two more snake plants, a spider plant (which is looking sad right now) and a huge plant for my parents - with the addition of lots of soil and pots haha.

006: creating the occasional tasty bake!
While I didn't do as much baking as I usually do, I did a few great recipes like my birthday cake and this amazing blueberry and lemon loaf. And don't forget these gingerbread cookies!

008: changing my lifestyle and exercising!
I've never been super healthy. I've done stints of exercise and then fell out of the habit. But since first lockdown, I put on a bit of weight and felt pretty sh*t within myself. SO, I started to commit to getting fit and in turn also help my mental health. Since the end of July, I've done so many work outs and I feel so proud of myself for keeping it up! And it's all thanks to my favourite online trainer Lucy Wyndham-Read!

009: discovered the delight that is pearl milk bubble tea!
Just before March, a new local bubble tea shop opened near my work, and I tried pearl milk bubble tea for the first time ever. And I became OBSESSED. So much so I've probably spent upwards of £40 on bubble tea this year alone. Oops.

010: and most importantly, discovering new music!
I can honestly thank my subscription to Spotify for saving my year. And my own music taste of course. I've enjoyed music from my forever faves like The 1975 and MARINA. As well as new music from Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Pale Waves, Harry Styles, YUNGBLUD and more... In fact my 2020 wrapped up was *chef's kiss*
