Why The Blogging World Feels Like An Old Friend

The best times are when reading blogs

Not only have I done posts about why blogging is the best hobby, and last week there was a post about the blog posts I'm proud of. But I reckon it was time I did a post from a reader's point of view. Because you and me both started as readers before we became inspired to become bloggers ourselves. Otherwise, what encouraged us to take the leap to stamp a piece of our identity in the blogosphere??

There's something comforting in a nice way with reading through someone's blog and working through our feed on Bloglovin'. Which has been my go to app from day one. I'm gonna use an early Autumnal term here oo-er, but for me, this activity is very hygge (hoo-ga).

I always imagine myself reading blog posts under layers of blankets with the fire on. Add in a dark stormy rainy day with a big cup of mocha - and you have my perfect blog reading environment - what a dream. Sometimes I can even get that warm toasty feeling just from the personality and style of posts from a blogger. Hiya Jaye Rockett and Life Outside London!!

And to the other side for a brief moment, even if you've not met anyone in real life, just that virtual connection can make you feel like you're part of a big happy family. I just LOVE it. I feel so incredibly lucky to not only have this blog for that connection, but that I also live in a time when blogging is so easily accessible. (I mean who even read blogs back in 2005? Weren't they all about essays and the best cheese??)

If we didn't feel the potential of starting our own spaces, then how did we get to where we are without reading blogs? Seeing others open up online makes us not only feel like we're not alone, but it's actually ok to be feeling that way. Beauty blogs and their reviews can help us invest in something that makes us feel good about ourselves - and who doesn't love using a cult product in a routine that helps us feel calm every morning.

Certain colours, photos, style of flatlays and even a particular blog theme has us coming back for more. It's another way of getting lost in something, but we're reading real people's posts about their actual lives. That's why I describe this beautiful exciting virtual universe as like an old friend. Even if that blogger isn't online in that moment, their posts will be waiting for us to click on them and become lost for a few minutes.

Whether you're a reader, blogger or both, you have to agree this is a nice way of relaxing, getting inspiration and feeling welcomed into something like by a person who cares for you to listen and also for your voice to be heard.

What does blogging feel like to you?

  1. This is so true! I feel a friendship with bloggers who've commented on my blog and whose blogs I've commented on and sometimes Follow on Twitter and/or on YouTube as well. I spent the whole day today reading blogs and composing comments on posts where I felt a common interest, and it feels good.
